SYDNEY, NSW: Panasonic has this afternoon repsonded to the Federal Court's ruling in favour of the ACCC, with managing director Steve Rust saying he accepted the decision. Rust also highlighted that Panasonic Australia erred only by accident, and that there was no intent from the supplier to mislead consumers or the industry.

"We were pleased that the Court recognised that Panasonic’s contravention was accidental," Rust said. "Panasonic is always concerned about the interests of the consumer and many of the Court’s recommendations have already been implemented during the past 18 months.”

According to the prepared statement, Panasonic Australia will be appointing a compliance officer, a complaints handling system and a training program for staff.

"Panasonic has run several successful redemption programs since the 2008 Wii promotion and we will work hard to ensure a similar situation does not arise in the future,” concluded Rust.
