SYDNEY, NSW: Philip Carmichael, the eighth US citizen to receive a Chinese visa and the first non-national to own his own house in China, has been appointed to the board of Fisher & Paykel. Carmichael is currently the president of Haier Asia Pacific, a position he has held since August 2008.

Under the terms of Haier’s 20 per cent cornerstone stake in Fisher & Paykel, Haier is invited to supply two board member nominees to Fisher & Paykel. Carmichael will replace Zhou Yunjie, who has stepped down in order to take up the executive director position of Haier Electronics Group, which is listed on the Hang Seng.

Carmichael is currently based at Haier’s Chinese headquarters in Qingdao. He has more than 30 years experience in Asian business, having previously worked at Fusion Systems, Lexmark and Rockwell & EG&G Services. He holds a Bachelor of Science in International Business Management from the University of Maryland Far East Division and has received a PhD in Business Administration from Abertay University. Carmichael is fluent in Mandarin Chinese.
