SYDNEY, NSW: With smartphones and GPS systems two of today’s most sought after digital devices, there is now an option that effectively combines the two with the Garmin-Asus A10 smartphone.

Optus has announced that it will be among the first mobile operator’s in the world to offer the navigating phone, which will be available to customers on Monday 7 June.

The Garmin-Asus A10 is a dual band device that combines an Android smartphone with a Garmin navigation device, making it suitable for both in-car and pedestrian navigation, said Garmin-Asus.

The phone includes navigation services such as maps and map updates and fuel searches, as well as access to thousands of Android apps.

According to Garmin-Asus national sales and marketing manager, Australia, Matt DeMoss, the device makes use of the best features of both a smartphone and a GPS.

“Because the A10’s navigation functionalities are deeply integrated into the device, users can, for example, navigate to an address, which is stored in an email, text message, on a web site or in the contact list.”

The phone itself features a 3.2-inch HVGA touch screen and electronic compass.

The Garmin-Asus A10 is available to consumers for $0 upfront on Optus’ ‘yes’ Social $29 plan over 24 months and to small business customers for $0 Upfront on the ‘yes’ Business Complete $49 plan over 24 months.
