TomTom has just announced the availability of the latest upgrade to its GPS app for the iPhone. Compatible with iOS 4, the new upgrade offers multi-tasking functionality, updated Whereis maps and route sharing.

“TomTom continues to deliver innovative solutions that enable users to reach their destinations while driving more efficiently and more safely,” said Chris Kearney, marketing manager, TomTom Australia & New Zealand.

“We’re pleased to introduce the latest version of the TomTom app for iPhone upon the release of iOS 4. Now iPhone users can benefit from TomTom’s industry-leading navigation and with its new multi-tasking functionality, also take advantage of other great iPhone features while they continue to receive uninterrupted guidance from the TomTom app.”

Consumers who purchase the app or upgrade from a previous version will notice that it now offers multi-tasking capabilities like being able to answer calls while still having the navigation instructions on the screen and background navigation instructions, so you can view other apps while the TomTom is still running.

Other features include an updated Wheris map of Australia, route sharing, departure reminder, eco-friendly routing and car symbols.

The new app is available for free if you currently own the TomTom app or it can now be purchased on the Apple App Store for RRP $89.
