SYDNEY, NSW: In the days following Channel Nine’s announcement that this year’s State of Origin rugby will be broadcast in 3D, Sony has announced a range of high definition digital DVD recorders in time for this year’s FIFA World Cup.

As a major sponsor of the World Cup, Sony has already announced plans to broadcast 25 games in 3D, and said the new recorders will allow viewers to take advantage of the first FIFA World Cup to be broadcast in high definition.

“Sony is committed to football in Australia and to offering the best technology for Australians to enjoy sport in its finest quality,” said product manager, home audio and visual, Sony Australia, Hassan Mahdi.

“There’s no longer a need to set an alarm for early morning matches – our recorders will stay up late for you so you can watch when you’re ready.”

Sony’s three new high definition digital recorders can provide up to 72 hours of high definition recording, with content then able to be recorded onto a DVD.

The recorder also feature a front mounted USB port designed to allow easy media play back of files including DivX, JPEG and MP3, while multi-format DVD recording ensures compatibility across other DVD players and recorders.  A one touch timer is designed to for easier record scheduling.

Sony’s entry level recorder is the RDHDC100 (RRP $549), which features a 160 gigabyte hard disk drive (HDD) with up to 23 hours recording time, while the next in the range is the RDRHDC300 (RRP $749) with a 320 gigabyte HDD and up to 46 hours of recording time.

At the top of the range is the RDRHDC500 (RRP $849), which comes with a 500 gigabyte HDD and offers up to 72 hours of recording time.

All three recorders are available now.
