SYDNEY, NSW: Fresh from receiving a sizable cash injection to fund a massive expansion, WOW Sight & Sound director of retail, Con Nicolas, has declared his retailer “150 per cent” supportive of the 3D revolution.

Talking to Current.com.au at yesterday’s Sony Bravia launch, Nicolas defined his overall feeling for this new technology as “excitement”. His excitement isn’t limited to just 3D televisions – he is particularly pleased at the cross- and upsell opportunities this advancement has provided.

“We’ve been in the business for a long time, and I’m excited,” said Nicolas. “There’s a big buzz around for 3D and I think it will go off.”

“It opens up the horizons on things like gaming, having 3D Full HD, laptops with 3D, more content on 3D, theatre systems, 3D Blu-ray players, and the other one will be glasses: you’ll see the branded 3D glasses come out, it’s exciting.”

Although not willing to divulge any inside details, Nicolas’ position as a powerbroker at WOW means he has been exposed to some of the finer details, such as price. He said that when comparing 2D with 3D televisions, “it’s not a big price difference”. He said this will entice consumers to spend the difference to upgrade to 3D.

Nicolas reported that he has already scoped out Samsung’s, Panasonic’s and now Sony’s 3D offering. Having examined three of the leading retailers’ wares, he was adamant the retail half of this industry was just as excited as the supplier side.
