Sony Australia has unveiled its latest Cyber-shot digital camera, the TX5. The new unit is the world’s thinnest and smallest waterproof digital still camera.

TheTX5 will still offer consumers the high quality design standards the Cyber-shot brand is renowned for but will now give consumers the added benefit of durability and toughness.

In terms of specifications, the TX5 is water proof up to 3 metres, shock proof to 1.5 metres, freeze proof to -10 degrees Celsius and dust proof.

Current.com.au was given the opportunity to have a sneak peak at this device a few weeks ago and the most surprising feature was the size. According to Sony, the TX5 is the world’s smallest and thinnest waterproof digital camera (for cameras with a built-in optical image stabiliser).

The 10.2 megapixel Cyber-shot TX5 features a 3-inch touch screen (which even works under water), Sony’s advanced Exmor R CMOS sensor, iSweep Panorama mode and 720p HD video recording and playback capability.

In addition to this, it also features a Carl Zeiss Lens with 4x optical zoom, a 25mm wide angle lens, the ability to shoot 10 frames per second and Backlight Correction HDR technology to solve backlighting problems.

The Sony Cyber-shot TX5 (DSCTX5) will be available in April for a RRP of $599. It comes in a range of four colours including silver, black, pink and red.
