SYDNEY, NSW: A refrigerator sold nationally has been recalled amid fears it could leak flammable gases, hence posing a fire hazard.
The refrigerator was supplied by Dometic and was sold in stores between February 2006 and December 2007. The units being recalled were 2-door fridge/freezer combination models with a 175-litre capacity. The major hazard of the fridge is listed as “fire”.
“At the rear of the refrigerator toward the bottom is a bracket securing the cooling unit. The bracket is held with a screw. A defect may exist in some screws due to an issue with the hardening process. This in turn could lead to a hazardous situation whereby the refrigerant gas could leak. If the cooling unit pipe-work fatigues which could then possibly ignite and cause a fire,” said a spokesperson.
Affected consumers are advised to cease using the product immediately and contact Dometic on 1800 212 121. Service to consumers will be provided free of charge.
