SYDNEY, NSW: With the news that Windows 7 was launched worldwide last Thursday in Sydney, Australia, came the response from Toshiba — 21 notebooks, all running Windows 7.

The new Toshiba notebook line-up consists of 21 notebooks across 12 ranges and includes five brand new models: Satellite U500 Touch, T100, T130, M500 and Qosmio X500. Blu-Ray is available on the X500 and P500 models.

“The new range offers customers new and easy ways to interact with their media on the go,” said Toshiba ISD ANZ general manager, Mark Whittard.

“The performance and functionality in Windows 7 has enabled us to deliver the features that consumers want, such as touch and Fast Sleep-and-Resume, in affordable mainstream notebooks. Our new range is diverse, powerful and intuitive and will change not only the way we use our notebooks.”

Toshiba is taking advantage of the Windows 7 touch screen capability with its first consumer touch notebook, the 13.3-inch Satellite U500 Touch (RRP $1,499). It comes pre-installed with Toshiba’s new touch-ready software called Toshiba LifeSpace.

LifeSpace consists of two applications designed to increase personal productivity:

  • Bulletin Board gives fast access to day-to-day activities, tasks and projects.
  • ReelTime helps to find files based on when they were opened with a simple, visual history.

The Satellite U500 Touch specifications include a 500GB hard drive with 4GB RAM, it is available with the Intel Core2 Duo, it has a Touchpad with Gesture Control and comes with Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium and 64 bit recovery partition.
