TomTom has announced that its new iPhone navigation application is now available to purchase on the Apple iTunes App Store. The company also hinted at a new iPhone mounting device slated for release later in the year.

The new TomTom GPS application can be used in conjunction with Apple iPhone 3G and 3GS and the Australian map is available to download through http://www.tomtom.com/tomtom-app for $99.99.

Corinne Vigreux, managing director of TomTom commented on the new release.

“With TomTom for iPhone, millions of iPhone users can now benefit from the same easy-to-use and intuitive interface, turn-by-turn spoken navigation and unique routing technology that our 30 million portable navigation device users rely on every day,” Vigreux said.

“As the world’s leading provider of navigation solutions and digital maps, TomTom is the most natural fit for an advanced navigation application on the iPhone.”

The application features exclusive IQ Routes technology, which calculates the best route according to the actual experiences of millions of TomTom drivers. The company claim this technology will help drivers reach their destination faster up to 35 per cent of the time.

In addition to this it also features a safety camera database, fully optimised user interface, night and day colour mode, multi-touch gestures, navigation to contacts in address book and points-of-interest search and call capabilities.

In additional news TomTom has also revealed that it is planning the release of a car kit for iPhone, which will offer iPhone users a mounting solution to securely dock their device, enhanced navigation and hands free calling.
