Samsung Australia has just announced that the company’s managing director, Kevin K. Y. Choi, will be returning to Samsung’s headquarters in Korea, after 30 months in charge of the local division.

According to Samsung S. R. Yoon has been appointed to take his place as the new managing director for Australia, and will officially start on Monday 10 August 2009.

At his time with the company Choi helped Samsung Australia to be one of the top 10 best performing markets for Samsung globally. According to Samsung he led the Australian business to achieve number one market share in several categories including TV and his performance is being rewarded with this new opportunity in the newly created department within the Home Appliances Headquarters in Korea.

Mr Yoon has been with Samsung since 1987, and during this 22 year career he has worked in a variety of areas across sales, marketing, finance and product planning. More recently he held the position of vice president at Mobile Device Division in Korea with responsibility for North America.

According to Samsung he has been recognised for driving innovations based on his global Samsung experience, and will bring this capacity to the Australian subsidiary.

Lambro Skropidis, head of Corporate Marketing, Samsung Electronics Australia, commented on Choi’s departure and his successor.

“Mr Choi has provided Samsung Australia with the leadership and strategy to engage with all of our stakeholders in a way that ensures business success. Our company has never been in a stronger position in Australia and he leaves behind a legacy which we will continue to build on with the arrival of Mr Yoon,” said Lambro.
