LG Electronics Australia has announced a new mobile handset that features an integrated 8 megapixel camera and Intelligent Shot Mode. According to LG, the Viewty Smart is leading the way for the next generation of camera phones.

The Viewty Smart LG-GC900, is the successor to the very popular LG Viewty, which sold over 6.5 million units worldwide. The second generation handset is expected to do even better in the market due to the fact that it has several upgraded features like an 8 megapixel camera with Intelligent Shot Mode, sensitivity up to ISO 1600, higher resolution WVGA touchscreen and S-Class User Interface.

“LG believes the future of camera phones lies in providing smart camera technology that lets consumers utilize all the camera functions more conveniently while still ensuring picture perfect output. Combined with the intuitive S-Class User Interface, Viewty Smart leads the way for the next generation of camera phones,” said Nathan Dunn, general manager telecommunications, LG Electronics Australia.

According to LG consumer preference surveys conducted around the world, consumers wanted a camera phone that is easy to use and complained that many of the current models on the market are too complicated to operate.

LG addressed this issue by incorporating Intelligent Shot Mode, which analyses a subject and lighting conditions and compares the data against seven pre-programmed scenarios to take the best possible pictures.

According to LG this feature is still rare in high-end stand alone compact digital cameras and is a first for a camera phone.

The S-Class user interface has also been enhanced for the Viewty Smart, with an on-screen dial for switching shot modes and a thumbnail viewer that shows recently taken photos without having to switch to the photo gallery.

“Viewty completely changed the way camera phones were viewed. People no longer had to suffer poor image quality for the convenience of using the cameras on their mobile phones,” said Dunn.

“Viewty Smart will change perceptions again. It won’t be about having a camera phone that equals the quality of a standalone digital camera. It will be about having a smart camera phone that takes better pictures and is easier to use than a standalone digital camera.”

The LG Viewty Smart will be available through Telstra in July and Vodafone and 3 Mobile in August for a RRP of $899.
