Rivals unite to promote digital radio

To celebrate the launch of digital radio in Australia, more than 40 different radio stations are uniting for a simultaneous outside broadcast across Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide.

The event will be titled ‘Radio United’ and will see both commercial and public service broadcasters join forces to promote the benefits of digital radio.

“Breakfast radio is a very powerful medium with Nielsen research figures for survey four 2009 showing the average cumulative breakfast radio audience Monday to Friday in the five state capitals for all stations is 8,761,000 people,” said CEO of Commercial Radio Australia Joan Warner.

“Radio is a big part of Australians way of life and we want to tell them about our new digital technology.”

From 5:30am to 9:00am on Thursday 6 August, outside broadcasts will be held in Martin Place in Sydney, Federation Square in Melbourne, Reddacliff Place in Brisbane, Victoria Square in Adelaide and Forrest Place in Perth.

“As an industry we will be speaking to this audience about digital radio in a unique event. We are inviting listeners to come to the outside broadcast in each city, meet many of the top radio personalities and listen to digital radio.”

To take advantage of the event many suppliers will be showcasing their new products. Roberts, Sangean, Yamaha, iRiver, Bush, Revo, Grundig and Pure products will all be on show for consumers to test.

Hundred of digital radios will be given way to listeners on the morning, but they must attend the outside broadcasts to be eligible.
