SYDNEY: On the eve of Earth Hour, Belkin is encouraging consumers to take their energy consumption a step further by employing a surge protector to eliminate power use by idling appliances. Conveniently, the supplier has a new model to facilitate this.

Talking about the new Belkin Conserve Surge Protector is product manager Philip Hodgson.

“On Saturday when you switch off yourlights as part of the Earth Hour initiative, you will notice that your house is not in complete darkness – the glow from numerous electronic appliances in standby mode will light up an entire room.”

So what’s to do, Mr Hodgson?

“Go one step further for Earth Hour 2009 by switching off standby power to your appliances with a Belkin Conserve Surge Protector.”

Hodgson lists the three main benefits of his product as being:

-Conserve’s wireless remote control, which keeps you from having to reach below desks,
behind home theatre equipment, around furniture or other inconvenient places
where surge protectors typically sit.

-With this handy remote control, you can eliminate standby power consumption to
appliances such as TVs, DVD players, Stereo systems, Laptop, Monitors, Multi
function printers and external hard drives when you are done using them.

-Two “always-on” outlets allow you to leave devices that typically need to stay on.

The Belkin Conserve Surge Protector is available now for RRP $249.
