Mitac Australia has just confirmed reports that its Mio office in Melbourne was closed down on Friday 27 February and unfortunately all three staff members were made redundant.

But the GPS brand will still stay strong in Australia according to Wendy Hammond, marketing director Australasia at Mitac, due to the fact that the Melbourne branch was only a satellite office for the Mio brand and all major back end business has always been carried out in Sydney.

“The reason for the closure is that we wanted to streamline the business by merging both offices into the Sydney branch, unfortunately redundancies had to occur,” she commented in an interview with Current.com.au this morning.

Hammond reassured consumers and retailers that the Mio brand will still remain in the Australian market and that their focus has not changed.

“The Mio brand will still be distributed through Synnex and Brightpoint, and if anything the closure will give the brand more support, and create a stronger focus for the company,” said Hammond.

It is definitely reassuring to know that the Mio brand will still remain strong in terms of its presence in the retail market, and Hammond further emphasised that consumers would not see any changes on the retail floor, and will still receive excellent customer service.
