Hitachi Global Storage Technology announced today that Stephen Milligan has been appointed the president of the company, effective from 1 April 2009.

In addition to this, Hiroaki Nakanishi, chairman and CEO of Hitachi GST has assumed a new role at Hitachi Ltd. as executive vice president, and will be responsible for Hitachi Group’s global strategy.

Nakanishi will also remain as chairman of Hitachi GST, in order to strengthen the relationship between the two sides of the company.

Nakanishi commented in regards to Milligans appointment, “Steve has been a key catalyst of Hitachi GST’s ongoing turnaround. Steve will be been instrumental in redefining our business model, increasing operational efficiency and overseeing our business transformation.”

“As President, he will be responsible for maximizing our investments, while delivering long-term value to our customers and sustained growth for Hitachi GST.”

In relation to himself, Nakanishi was also very enthusiastic about his new assignment “I’ll be leveraging my experience from transforming Hitachi GST into a successful business as I work to position Hitachi Group as a thriving global company with extensive reach and range.”

Kazuo Furukawa, president and CEO of Hitachi Ltd. agreed that both of that these appointments will help further the business and strengthen the commitment between the companies.

He also added that he has been very pleased with both their work and commented “working together, they guided the company through its financial and business recovery. I feel very confident that the business will continue to move forward with speed, focus and purpose.”

In addition to this Hitachi GST has also made another two executive management changes.

Effective from 1 April, Shinjiro Iwata will move from executive vice president of Hitachi GST to CEO of Service and Global Businesses for the Telecommunications Systems Group at Hitachi Ltd.

Also from 1 March, Masaya Watanabe will now be chief strategist of data storage at Hitachi GST after coming from Hitachi Ltd as the general manager of their enterprise server division within the Information and Telecommunications Systems Group.
