It has been announced that the batteries supplied for the i-mate JAMA mobile handset range and used as accessories for the i-mate JAMA 101 handset, sold between April 2008 and January 2009, are officially on recall.

The Product Recalls Australia website announced yesterday that the affected batteries “when under certain conditions, have the potential to generate excessive heat.”

“In extreme circumstances this may damage the battery and/or the device, and have the potential to cause fire.”

Consumers can identify the affected batteries by the model name ‘i-mate JAMA’ printed in blue on the battery label. Consumers are warned that batteries printed ‘i-mate JAMA 101’ on the label are not affected.

The recall is advising consumers to refrain from charging the battery until a replacement arrives. A replacement will be issued after you send an email to recall@imate.com.

The email must include your name, address, contact phone number, the IEC P/N, the serial number of the battery and the IMEI number of your i-mate JAMA mobile handset.

The recall is currently effective in Australia, New Zealand and Indonesia.
