SYDNEY: Electrolux announced today it has restructured its Australian and New Zealand operations in the face of slowing sales of whitegoods and economic activity. A total of 44 positions have been made redundant from the company’s Australasian workforce of 1,750.

A statement from Electrolux Home Products Australia and New Zealand managing director, John Brown advised that the majority of these positions were from the head office in Sydney, primarily in marketing and administration including some senior executive level positions going as well.

The company’s two Australian manufacturing plants — the Electrolux Cooking Products Plant in Adelaide, SA, and the Electrolux Refrigeration Plant in Orange, NSW — will lose 12 administrative and management positions. The company said these plants will continue to operate “but continue at reduced capacity in line with market demand forecasts”.

This local restructure follows an announcement on 16 December last year from Electrolux Group headquarters in Stockholm, that it would cut 3,000 people from its global workforce as part of its cost reduction activities.
