SYDNEY: US floorcare leader Bissell has announced plans to become more environmentally friendly, with moves across the board to help reduce its trading impact.

In his face to face interview with Current.com.au, Bissell USA Sales, Marketing and Product Development executive vice president, Jim Krzeminski, claimed the company was the first in the world to use recycled materials in its cleaning products, and would now expand that strategy.

“We’re doing a lot of things internally and externally to be better citizens of the earth,” he said.

“Taking that product [the Little Green model] and removing all the PVC, removing the Styrofoam from the packaging, we were actually the first product in the world I know [of] that uses recycled material in it.”

He said Electrolux had beaten them to such an announcement with its Ultra Silencer Green model locally, but applauded them for heading in the right direction.

Bissell would also look at making all its deep cleaning tools from 100 per cent recycled plastic, said Krzeminski.

“It’s just the right thing to do and that’s just a part of who we are,” he said, referring to the overall move.

He decried those companies ‘greenwashing’, though.

And again, Krzeminski said the commitment to sustainability helped demonstrate that Bissell was here to stay in Australia, not just a brand that “had been sold three times”.
