The decision by Philips to abandon the Australian AV market, one that is expected to be confirmed later today, will have no impact on any of its other business categories.

Earlier this year, at a marquee media event at Sydney’s Luna Park, Philips announced the restructuring of its brand categories, pulling originally distinct groups together under the ‘Consumer Lifestyle’ banner.

At this event, much focus was placed on Philips’ offering in the AV category, with Matt Moran, the general manager of this segment, speaking at length about the new range of flat panel televisions and home theatre sound bars.

It is unclear what has changed since that event to initiate such a dramatic change of direction.

Moran was unavailable for comment at the time of writing.
