MELBOURNE: JB Hi-Fi has revealed approximate opening dates for five of its upcoming stores, along with those of two Clive Anthonys stores.

JB Hi-Fi chief executive, Richard Uechtritz, said JB stores in Cairns, Tweed Heads in New South Wales, Moray Field in Brisbane and two Perth Stores, Coburn and Carousel, would all start trading in the next two to three months.

Cairns will be the first store due to open, at the end of this month, followed by the Tweed Heads store, located in Tweed City shopping centre, in September.

Brisbane’s Moray Field store and Perth’s Coburn store would also open at approximately the same time, Uechtritz said.

Mid-October will see Westfield Carousel’s store in Perth open its doors.

Uechtritz also revealed a new Clive Anthonys store in Helensvale, Queensland, would open later this month, and confirmed both JB Hi-Fi and Clive Anthonys would move into the DFO centre in Fyshwick, ACT, “later this year”.

Dates were not revealed, but while Uechtritz said plans were “well advanced”, he revealed they had yet to take possession of the two stores.

Uechtritz also said the DFO stores would measure 1,300 to 1,400 square metres for the JB Hi-Fi and approximately 2,700 square metres for the Clive Anthonys.

“There are a number of stores on this year, but we said we’d open a little over 24, so at any one time, there’s always going to be a number opening,” he said.

“There’s no change in what’s proven to be a very successful formula in the past.”

There are no plans to roll out any further PC and electronics specialist stores, a la the Elizabeth Street outlet in Melbourne, either, according to Uechtritz. He said that store was a “one of a kind” and answered specific needs in Melbourne.

“That was a one of its kind, and the thought at the time is that it hasn’t changed. It just complements because our Melbourne city store doesn’t have the space for computers, as it didn’t for cameras,” he said.
