SYDNEY: LG Electronics last night held its eighth annual roadshow at the Showgrounds in Sydney. The theme was Tonight Live with LG, and with the ‘show’ being broadcast live into Korea, there was a degree of realism to this description.

In attendance at the event were representatives from the major retailers, buying groups and the media. Included in this was a large claque of retail staff, who proudly wore their store colours as they enjoyed a night away from the sales floor.

The ‘show’ was hosted by Tim Ferguson, former Doug Anthony All Star and Don’t Forget Your Toothbrush host, who throughout the night interviewed various product and brand managers about the range of consumer electrical appliances that LG was featuring. This included mobile phones, plasma and LCD TVs, audio, laundry appliances and kitchen appliances.

Comedic entertainment was provided by professional duo The Umbilical Brothers, who performed a number of short sketches between Ferguson’s product disseminations. The Umbilical Brothers’ displays of vocal manipulation and physical dexterity proved a hit with the crowd, with their final appearance being applauded loudly.

An LG-based trivia competition, in which guests were quizzed about the products being displayed, proved successful, with “90 per cent of all tables scoring full marks”. It was then left to Cronulla Sharks coach Ricky Stuart to draw the winning entry. The former Australian halfback picked out Clive Peeters at Casula, with guests at that table each winning an LG DVD player.

Proving they are all-rounders at Clive Peeters, the Casula store also took out the talent contest, with Diana Henriquez wowing the crowd by doing the splits. She won an LG mobile phone for her performance.

The final prize of the night was a raffle drawn by Ferguson. From the many entries, the showman pulled out the ticket of Brian McCombe, from the Good Guys Blacktown, to take home the television.

After the ‘show’ was finished and the prizes given away, guests took the opportunity to pose for a photo with Cronulla Sharks players such as Brett Kimmorley, Ben Ross and Brett Kearney.

The final show in the 2008 LG roadshow is to be held tonight.
