THE NETHERLANDS/SYDNEY: Reuters is reporting that TomTom have already provided software to Apple and that their GPS technology is already on the iPhone.

An unnamed spokesperson for TomTom is reported as saying, “Our navigation system runs on the [3G] iPhone already.”

The 3G iPhone, which was officially unveiled in the US this morning (Australian time), features a map component which is currently serviced by Google Maps. The availability and compatibility of TomTom’s navigational technology would make the iPhone’s GPS capabilities more on par with the current in-car units.

TomTom’s representatives in Australia were not able to confirm this story when contacted this morning.
