MELBOURNE: Pioneer Australia has announced retail price drops of $2,000 on each of its high-end LX full HD televisions, but is already running weeks behind stores.

The price drop puts the PDP-LX508A at RRP $5,999 (down from $7,999 previously) and the PDP-LX608A at RRP $9,999 (previously $11,999). Pioneer put the price drop down to a re-focus on the LX brand, having sold out of their 720p 50-inch Kuro televisions and down to almost no stock in the 42-inch size.

However, prices advertised in Myer’s May catalogue either matched or undercut the price drops two weeks before today’s announcement, with the PDP-LX608A already down to $9,999 from 3 May, and the PDP-LX508A selling for a full $700 below the new RRP, at $5,299.

Pioneer has stated previously it will try and bring in its new LCD televisions before the end of the year, and recently launched a new range of top-end full HD plasma televisions in the US, but there are no firm local release dates for either product range.

Pioneer was contacted for this story, but said they could not comment on retail price drops.
