SYDNEY: LG has launched a new online fantasy football game to mark its sponsorship of the Cronulla Sharks in the NRL and Fremantle Dockers in the AFL.

The game, which is split between the two codes, allows fans of both games to choose their ‘dream team’ and act as coach throughout the season.

Players score ‘fantasy’ points based on their real life performance each week. To encourage some friendly competition, the ‘coaches’ can also challenge their family and colleagues in an online mini-league.

The AFL competition winner will win a 42-inch LG plasma television, while the NRL winner will receive a 42-inch LCD TV.

LG Electronics Australia corporate webmaster, Andy Cho, said the wide-appeal of fantasy games was a good way for LG to continue their involvement in the two major codes.

“We know through the success of LG Fantasy Cricket that consumers are enthusiastic about playing these games. Australians love sport and the competition keeps our consumers interested in the game and gives them a reason to keep coming back to our website,” said Cho.

“Fantasy sport games provide another reason for users to visit a site and we are certain the concept will continue to grow in popularity in Australia as brands harness the power of these games to engage with their target audience,” said game developer SilentManager’s managing director, Jon Trigg.
