SYDNEY: Fisher & Paykel has ruled out any possibility its Cleveland factory could remain open, despite claims by the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union (AMWU) yesterday the factory was viable and could still operate.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday, Fisher & Paykel Australia chief executive, Mike Church said the company had “made the decision”, indicating there was no room for negotiation.

Church said Fisher & Paykel would be working “very closely” with individuals and families of workers at the plant to help deal with the closure, and would offer some jobs in “specialist areas” to workers who could assist setting up the new Thailand and Reynosa, Mexico factories.
