SYDNEY: Canon Australia has announced a new range of three Ixus digital cameras, with face recognition, image stabilisation, motion detection and boasting 10 megapixel CCDs.

The Ixus 970 IS, 90 IS and 85 all move up to 10 megapixels, with improved ‘Face Detection with White Balance’ technology for better skin tones in a range of environments, and the ability to print up to A2 sizes.

The 970 IS (RRP 549) has a 5x optical zoom, the biggest in the range, and includes a ‘Safety Zoom’ function to reduce the likelihood of image degradation when shooting distant subjects.

Replacing the Ixus 75, the 90 IS (RRP $479) boasts the largest screen of the range, with a three-inch ‘Pure Colour’ screen.

The cheapest model in the range, the Ixus 85 IS ($429), targets fashion conscious consumers more with its ‘slimmest model in the range’ status.

“Canon is very proud of the new additions to the Ixus range,” said Canon Australia Digital Still Cameras and Consumer Imaging product manager Kimberley Langton.

“These new models incorporate cutting-edge technology in compact, stylish camera bodies, perfect for capturing flawless photographs in any social setting.”

The three new models will be available from April.
