SYDNEY: Motorola has partnered with Optus to release Australia’s first streaming news ticker service for mobiles, Screen3, on its RAZR2 V9 and KRZR handsets.

The streaming service will enable users to have news, sports news, ARIA chart information and the latest downloads scrolling across the bottom of the screen like a news ticker. No browser needs to be activated to see the content. Content can be accessed in more detail by clicking on it when it comes across the screen.

Optus is the first carrier in Australia to offer Screen3, joining a growing list of mobile carriers around the world offering the service. The service first originated in Japan on leading carrier NTT DoCoMo in late 2005.

“This new service from Motorola will provide our 3G customers with another convenient way to receive information on their handsets,” said Optus Consumer group marketing director, Michael Smith.

Content for the service will be provided through a partnership with iTouch and News Digital Media.

iTouch Asia Pacific managing director, Tim Pagram, said, “The Screen3 solution is a great way to keep Australians informed. Services such as news direct from News.com.au, entertainment updates and travel and weather forecasts will be accessible 24 hours a day.”

“By placing relevant, targeted content right on the home screen, Screen3 not only makes it accessible, it makes mobile content irresistible,” said Motorola South Pacific managing director, Andrew Volard.
