SYDNEY: LG has announced it will sponsor the Quiksilver Pro and Roxy Pro surf events at Snapper Rocks on the Gold Coast.

The company will use its newest handset on sale in Australia, the Viewty, to capture images and video footage of the surfing action. The phone comes with a five megapixel still camera and can record at 120 frames per second in QVGA resolution for slow motion shots.

The footage from the event, which runs between February 22 and March 5, will be projected on large LG-branded screens.

LG will also host a Viewty marquee, with free calls and SMS for visitors, interactive demonstrations, photo opportunities with sporting heroes plus the chance to win a trip around the world.

Carli Wilson, LG Electronics Mobile Communications marketing manager, said the sponsorship aimed to give the brand a greater youth presence.

“LG is thrilled to be involved with the Quiksilver Pro and Roxy Pro. This partnership allows LG to connect directly with today’s tech savvy, active, young market – a significant and growing segment of the mobile phone market,” she said.

The sponsorship follows LG’s promotions in AFL and Rugby League, with sponsorship of the Fremantle Dockers Football Club and Cronulla Sharks NRL club.
