SYDNEY: Toshiba will not reduce its headcount in Australia and is also unlikely to shed staff globally, according to local general manager, Mark Whittard, who said the company’s HD DVD business resources will be redirected to new ventures following its closure.

“I can tell you categorically that there is no need and will not be any changes here locally,” said Whittard.
“Our HD DVD resources will be working on new solutions and thinking about how we go to market to work and collaborate with retailers.”

Whittard said the closure of its HD DVD business was ‘the right thing to do’ and will allow the company to change its approach to developing home entertainment products.

“The global strategy is to redirect the resources into the development of a new strategy for digital convergence solutions. I’m not privy to any announcements regarding restructuring or retrenchments,” said Whittard.
