BRISBANE: Wow Sight & Sound was naming sponsor of Brazilian V8 Supercar driver Max Wilson until the teams’ owner Craig Gore sold the team last week. A last minute deal saw Wow join the Brad Jones Racing Holden team which itself switched from Ford to Holden.
Wow joins long-time backers BOC as co-naming rights sponsor of the revitalised Brad Jones Racing (BJR) team. The Albury-based team recently announced a switch from Ford to Holden, along with a technical alliance with Holden racing powerhouse Walkinshaw Performance and the signing of driver Cameron McConville.
McConville’s number 14 Commodore will carry the Wow Sight & Sound branding for the 2008 season. Meanwhile his team-mate Andrew Jones’s car will retain the familiar Team BOC signage, while the different sponsor brandings will be carried over onto each car.
The cars will feature some Wow signage in time for this weekend’s Clipsal 500 event in Adelaide but the team will unveil the complete new look of the cars at round two at Eastern Creek from March 7 to 9.
WOW Sight & Sound managing director, Sam Savvas said its V8 Supercars sponsorship was pivotal for connecting with its market.
“Our involvement in V8 Supercars gives us the ultimate ‘WOW’ factor and we were eager to continue being aligned with the competition,” Savvas said.
“After visiting BJR and being presented with Brad and Kim’s plans, joining with BOC as co-naming rights sponsors of the team was an easy decision and we are very excited about still having a presence on the track.
“Motorsports is a visually exciting sport that attracts a large and diverse audience and WOW is Australia’s most exciting electronics and entertainment superstores so, the pace and enthusiasm of V8 car racing fits our brand perfectly.”
In just three years, WOW Sight & Sound has grown from just one store to 12 with plans for continued expansion in 2008.
“We are confident in our partnership with BJR Racing and look forward to Cameron and Andrew putting the team in the spotlight with top 10 finishes every round,” Savvas said.
The news was well received by McConville who said the sponsorship will allow the new Holden team to focus on winning races.
“It was only two weeks ago that we pulled the covers off our new commodores, but mine’s already changing,” McConville said.
“It’s the quickest change in team colours I’ve ever had, but gaining the support of such a dynamic company as WOW Sight & Sound will only strengthen BJR’s position.
“V8 Supercars never gets any easier, so now with the combined support of BOC and WOW Sight & Sound we will have a greater chance of being competitive and realising our goals.”
