SYDNEY: The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has announced a national recall of several hair straightening irons distributed by M&U Imports Pty Ltd.

The affected hair irons, sold under the Turbo ion, xl Titanium and Kodo Titanium brand manes, were sold at selected wholesale and retail distributors including Price Attack, Hairhouse Warehouse and Shaver Shop.

The affected models all have approval number Q041236.

According to the ACCC, the manufacturer of these appliances had changed specifications of these appliances, which could make the heating plates become live to 240 volts.

This is the second time M&U has recalled a hair iron that could potentially shock its users. The previous recall was in May last year for the DH-001 Turbo Ion hair iron, which could also give its users an electric shock due to an incorrectly installed component.

The ACCC said consumers should stop using the product immediately and call M&U Imports on 1800 810 115 between 12.00pm and 5.00pm Monday to Friday to register their details for a free replacement.
