BSR goes viral for Christmas advertising campaign

SYDNEY: BSR Group released a viral advert on internet video sharing site YouTube for its revised Betta Electrical Gift Card, which takes a tongue-in-cheek view of the traditional nativity gift-giving scene.

The 30 second commercial sees the tree wise men all present gifts to the baby Jesus, only to have them thrown out. The tagline is “Give a better gift this Christmas”.

Individual Betta Electrical stores are planning to run the commercial from today, November 29 n their local areas, in conjunction with national media schedules.

According to BSR, since it was released virally, the commercial has been viewed 360 times in less than 24 hours on video sharing internet site YouTube.

Brisbane’s de Pasquale Advertising produced advert. Creative Director Bevan Lewis said the commercial illustrated how many people do not receive the gift they want at Christmas.

“The ad is a simple demonstration of what can happen when someone gives the wrong present.”

He said the card gave people the power to choose the gift they actually had their eye on in the first place.

BSR Group marketing manager Julieanne Worchurst said the commercial had broad appeal.

“Everyone can relate to a moment when they have been presented with a gift, which while thoughtful, may not have been exactly what they had in mind,” she said.

“The … gift card, which can be used nationally at our stores, takes the uncertainty out of gift giving.”
