SYDNEY: Samsung’s new digital still camera ranges it the company’s first since taking the distribution of digital still cameras in-house this year. The range includes the i Series, the NV Series and the L Series.

The L series ranges from RRP $249 to $429, the NV series from $449 to $649, while the i85 is RRP $449 and the i7 is RRP $469.

The i Series allows consumers to combine a variety of portable multimedia devices in one package.

“The i Series offers more than just a camera,” said Samsung Electronics Australia’s senior product manager – digital still camera, Stephen Jacobs. “It represents the next step in digital technology convergence.”

“The i Series is the perfect alternative for fashion conscious and tech-savvy consumers who are looking for a camera that does more than take photos and is a positive step for consumers looking for greater choice. Travellers will particularly like the camera’s World Tour Guide capability. Gone are the days of carrying around a travel book. Travellers can now have global travel information in the palm of their hand.”

The i Series has a slim metallic body for durability and includes a World Tour Guide with information on 2,600 famous attractions in over 30 countries, a portable Media Player, a three inch LCD screen with touch control and in-camera editing.

This range features a 7.4 megapixel image sensor in the i7 and an 8 megapixel in the i85. Both cameras have an optical zoom (i85 has a 5x and the i7 has a 3x) and an ISO sensitivity of 1600 for use in low lighting. Standard features in the i Series also include face recognition software, anti-shake technology and red-eye reduction.

The NV series combines a premium quality Schneider-Kreuznach lens with a Smart Touch LCD screen.

“The NV Series is designed for the camera enthusiast who enjoys taking semi-professional photographs in a range of conditions,” said Jacobs.

Unique to Samsung, the Smart Touch 2.5-inch LCD screen allows consumers to quickly and navigate through an intuitive menu system. The NV series also offers a MPEG Movie Mode with Sound that is capable of capturing television quality MPEG4 files at 30 frames-per-second.

This series also features Samsung’s Fast Advanced Shake Reduction, Face Recognition Software which recognises up to nine different faces in a subject, and an Auto Contrast Balance function to compensate for image brightness and an automatic red-eye fix function.

Samsung L Series range has a slim design with the cameras just over two centimetres thick. The range offers a 2.5 inch LCD screen and Samsung’s Face Recognition software, Anti-Shake technology, in-camera editing and an iMovie camcorder function to record MPEG4 format movies.
