SYDNEY: Sony Australia has followed up on its promise to release a “mass market” Blu-ray player to the Australian market before Christmas with the BDP-S300 announced at Sony.Experience More at a RRP of $1,099.

As promised the BDP-S300 will be released in September and for $300 less than Sony’s previously released BDP-S1E Blu-ray player, however it will still cost $100 more than Sony’s PlayStation 3 gaming console which also features a built-in Blu-ray player.

Whether or not the $1,099 price tags attracts the more mainstream consumer will remain to be seen, however there is no doubting the present and future popularity high definition products, with total HD category sales representing over two-thirds of total spending, with a year-on-year increase in HD sales of over 80 per cent, according to Sony Australia’s latest HD Benchmark Report.

The new BDP-S300 will feature full HD 1080p and 24p True Cinema output, Bravia Theatre Link, DVD upscaling to 1080p, x.v.Colour, LPCM HDMI pass-through and built-in Dolby Digital Plus decoder.

The BDP-S300 increases Sony Australia’s Blu-ray offering to three products, including the BDP-S1E and the PlayStation 3.
