SYDNEY: Sony’s Bravia 40-inch KDL40X2000 LCD television has been named the Australian Electrical Retailing (ERA) Awards 2007 Product of the Year, beating fellow finalist and last year’s winner, JVC’s Everio hard disk camcorder.

Recognised not only for its innovative design and quality, but also for the sales growth it has delivered to retailers, the Sony Bravia 40-inch LCD was described as “best in class” and offered high profits to retailers through a higher average sale price.

Appliance Retailer and Current.com.au managing editor, James Wells, stated that “by providing consumers with first to market technology and add-on sales opportunities, this product was a clear winner.”

The Sony Bravia KDl40X2000 beat out six other finalists including the aforementioned JVC Everio MG505 HDD camcorder, LG’s 42-inch 42LC2DR LCD television, Panasonic’s DMREX75 DVD Recorder HD with Digital Tuner, Fisher & Paykel’s WL80T65 Aquasmart washing machine, De’Longhi’s ESAM6600 Primadonna coffee machine and Dyson’s DC16YT Handheld vacuum cleaner.

Sony Australia national sales manager, David Hargreaves, who is known for his now famous comment made last year when accepting the Best Audio Supplier ERA, stating “that Apples really do fall from trees” after beating competitors, Apple, to the prize, accepted the Best Product award on the night.
