SYDNEY: Steve Wilson has been appointed as Sony Ericsson’s new managing director for Oceania, immediately taking over from acting managing director Takeo Kobayashi, and will assume responsibility for operations in both Australia and New Zealand.

“I’m very excited to be leading the management team for Sony Ericsson in the Oceania region,” said Wilson.

“We have some great marketing and sales initiatives in the pipeline to support a very strong product portfolio in 2007.”

Wilson has more than eighteen years experience in the telecommunications and consumer electronics industries, and was promoted internally from the head of sales UK & Ireland for Sony Ericsson where he oversaw the growth of the UK & Ireland business.

He has previously worked with Panasonic in corporate strategy, sales and marketing, and account management.

“We’ll continue to advance our successful range of Cyber-shot and Walkman handsets, particularly the newly released W850i and W950i models. We will be building our portfolio of emotive handsets, which began with the successful introduction of the Z610i and as well has handsets that will enhance your email, mobile application and web browsing experience.

“We’ll also continue to work with our Sony Sister companies and other strategic partners to add value to Sony Ericsson customers, as shown with our participation in the new Bond film, Casino Royale, and sponsorship of Robbie Williams Close Encounters Australian tour.”
