QLD, West End: The Wow Sight & Sound chain of electrical retailers has resigned from BSR Australia Ltd, the consortium that bought the disenfranchised Betta Stores Limited (BSL) chain of retail stores last month, according to a document obtained by Current.com.au

The letter sent to suppliers, entitled ‘Resignation of Retailer’, states: “The Wow group of stores are not BSR members. Please amend your records and advise your appropriate State Team/Distributor/Credit Manager.”

According to the letter, the resignation is effective “immediately”.

Wow Sight & Sound directors, Sam Sabbas and Sotiris Sotiris and general manager – head office Con Nicolas, were unavailable for comment today, since most of the team is attending today’s opening of the retailer’s ninth Wow Sight & Sound Store, in Queensland’s Mackay.

At this stage, it is unclear if the Wow Sight & Sound brand will join another buying group, such as Narta, or if the chain will exist on its own.

Harvey Norman is currently enlisting new retail recruits across Australia in a bid to expand its empire, and Harvey Norman chief operating officer, John Slack-Smith, last week admitted to Current.com.au that the publicly-listed brand is looking to add disenfranchised members from Retravision NSW that add value to his organisation.

Wow Sight & Sound was a long-standing member of BSL, and its eight outlets meant it had a significant prescence in the now-defunct retail group. So it is unclear why Wow Sight & Sound decided to leave the BSR Group, so soon after the company began official trading.

BSR Limited has now been open for business since 9th November, and described its first week of trade as “brisk”.

BSR announced yesterday that a new BSR-owned store will be opened before the end of the year, but the location is yet to be confirmed.
