SYDNEY: Sony Australia announced today it has expanded its hard disk drive Handycam lineup with the addition of the SR series including the brand’s first 60GB capacity model and two new 30GB models.

The flagship SR80 (RRP $1,699) model will store 42 hours of standard definition widescreen video on its 60GB hard disk, and also features the Mega Pixel Engine for high resolution recording with low image interference blur.

The SR80 doubles the capacity of its forerunner, the SR100, which was Sony’s first HDD Handycam launched in March this year.

“Hard disk camcorders are becoming an increasingly popular recording option for customers who want long hours of recording without any interruptions by having to replace media,” said Sony produt manager – Handycam, Di Shepherd.

“The SR series is designed to perform beyond this criteria and to continue pushing the boundaries. By leveraging Sony’s strengths in the camcorder category these new models deliver high picture quality with easy post-captuer solutions such as One Touch DVD Burn function, ensuring maximum convenience for users.”

The entry-level SR40 (RRP $1,199) and the mid-range SR60 (RRP $1,399) both feature a 30GB hard disk for 21 hours recording and a Stamina battery for six hours recording time.

The SR60 and SR80 have a widescreen LCD monitor, and all models in the range feature Easy PC Backup to detect and transfer newly created footage to the user’s PC and HDD Smart Protection which enables the camcorder to keep recording even when the hard disk protection is enabled.
