SYDNEY: Best known for its cordless phones and radios, Uniden Australia is diversifying its brand offering and will launch a range of Uniden-branded LCD TVs and digital cameras in October.

Uniden has identified the widescreen LCD TV category as one of the consumer electronics market’s fastest growing categories, and will target mid-market business.

“Screens are forming the hub of home entertainment with peripherals such as high definition DVD players and home theare systems and new peripherals such as  media centres and gaming consoles becoming more popular,” said Uniden national marketing manager, Mark Willis.

Uniden will launch high definition capable LCDs in four sizes from 27-inch to 42-inch, with two different finishes – piano black and high gloss white.

“I believe the Uniden models are the only ones on the market with the iPod look and feel. The white models in particular will look great mounted on a wall or alternatively on its own stand,” said Willis.

Starting at RRP $1,199, the Uniden LCD TVs will feature twin HDMI inputs for full quality high definition video and audio.
Retailers will include Harvey Norman, Retravision and The Good Guys.

Uniden will also launch two digital cameras in October – a 5.0 megapixel and 7.0 megapixel model, each available in four colours.

A point of difference for the range will be long battery life, with each camera capable of taking 300 shots on a single battery charge.

“We’re starting from ground zero, but we have a reputation for our professionalism, and we are very confident in our new range of digital cameras,” said Willis.

Uniden will support the launch of these products with above the line advertising including fully decorated buses, trams and billboards nationally.
