SYDNEY: Fisher & Paykel has announced it will become a new sponsor of Australian Women’s Golf and will launch the Fisher & Paykel Classic to allow amateur women golfers from around Australia to compete against each other at club, state and national levels.

The sponsorship will also see Fisher & Paykel become the exclusive whitegoods sponsor of the Australian Women’s Open to be held in January 2007.

Fisher & Paykel’s national marketing manager, Steve Reid, said clubs participating in the inaugural event would be required to stage their competition throughout the months of August to October this year.

All women who enter the Classic will receive a gift bag from Fisher & Paykel containing branded golf merchandise and a $100 cashback redemption voucher which can be used against the purchase of any Fisher & Paykel appliance.

“Golf clubs that enter the Classic must meet certain performance criteria including displaying F&P signage throughout the club and on the course, disseminating press releases locally and facilitate player registrations,” said Reid.

“The Fisher & Paykel Classic is the first event of its kind to be held in Australia, and presents amateur lady golfers – of which there is around 120,000 Australia-wide – with an opportunity to compete against one another to ultimately play in a National level competition scheduled for 30 and 31 January, 2007 – a prelude to the MFS Women’s Australian Open.”
