MELBOURNE: Playcorp Australia has confirmed that a range of coffee machines which suddenly exploded in consumer kitchens while heating were not sold through electrical retailers.

A spokesperson for Playcorp has confirmed that three styles of Evans & Taylor Milano espresso makers were sold through three unidentified non-electrical homewares stores.

The exploding coffee machines were sold in three configurations – two-cup (150ml), four-cup (210ml) and six cup (350ml) between October 2005 and February 2006.

According to a statement released by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), customers have been advised to cease using the product immediately and return it to the place of purchase or directly to Playcorp for a full refund of the purchase price.
