SYDNEY: Sunbeam has appointed a consultant to help identify new growth opportunities within the appliance business.

Rachel Wilson has joined Sunbeam as business development consultant with more than 15 years of marketing and new product development experience.

According to a spokesperson for Sunbeam, Wilson is working with the company to develop its first gas barbecue range – Innovo, which is expected to be launched in September to take advantage of a seasonal sales increase.

The two Innovo Australian-designed and Chinese made gas barbecues have been developed in conjunction with celebrity chef, Geoff Jansz, and will compete in the mid range of the $210 million barbecue market alongside brands such as Everdure and the house brands from retailers including Kmart and Barbecues Galore.

Sunbeam has confirmed that Wilson is also investigating other growth opportunities in the appliance industry.

Sunbeam will be the only appliance company to exhibit at tomorrow’s Good Food & Wine Show at Darling Harbour in Sydney. The show, which has been supported by several other appliance brands and retailers in previous years, has reportedly received strong forward bookings from electrical brands in 2007.
