WASHINGTON D.C.: Yamaha Australia has confirmed that a recall of in-ceiling and in-wall speakers, after consumer reports in North America of units falling after installation, does not apply to the local range.

Over 4,300 units of the round NS-IW360C in-ceiling speakers and the rectangular NS-IW660 in-wall speaker have been recalled after the mounting clamps on some speakers were found to break, causing the speaker to fall and potentially hit consumers.

While Yamaha USA has received 14 reports of falling speakers, no injuries have been reported.

The Chinese-made speakers, which both feature a white rim and grill and black interior, were sold between January 2006 and March 2006 for approximately $US180 (NS-IW360C) and $US350 (NS-IW660).

A spokesperson from Yamaha Australia told current.com.au there are no in-ceiling or in-wall speakers in the local range at this stage.

“We are quite keen on getting some in-ceiling and in-wall speakers due to the demand for home theatre installations, but it looks like we will be sourcing them elsewhere,” he said.
