FIJI: On the opening day of Retravision’s 45th annual national seminar yesterday, the group’s audio visual category team leader, Biag Capasso, outlined the group’s plans to increase its market share in the AV category by seven per cent and to “own the LCD category outright.”

“Our growth in LCD is well ahead of the market and we can’t let that slip,” Capasso told the 539 delegates.

“LCD is viewed as the replacement market for CRT, for which we have traditionally had huge market share. Retravision is to become the destination retailer for LCD,” he said.

Retravision also plans to grow its market share in plasma technology by 40 per cent over the next three years and encourage ranging to be driven towards 50 inch panels and above as well as High Definition (HD) models," Capasso said.

“With plasma we were slow to market. We are in recovery mode but we now have the suppliers to turn this around. The FIFA World Cup is the next big event that will drive flat panel.

“We want to maximize gross profit for members from national initiatives,” Capasso said.

Retravision national chairman, Bill Harries, echoed this sentiment in his opening address.

“Audio visual has been a tough category for us all with continually eroding price points and inconsistent supply from a number of vendors, but it is pleasing to see Retravision has increased its market share in both LCD and plasma and is up overall on last year,” he said.
