Gas heater sales to benefit from Victorian rebates

By James Wells

MELBOURNE: Gas heating sales are likely to benefit from a recently announced Victorian government rebate system for households installing four or five star natural gas or LPG heaters into their homes. Participants are entitled to a rebate of up to $1,000 for heaters installed under the rebate program.

Several appliance companies such as Sampford and Staff are capitalising on this recent announcement by communicating the potential savings to consumers.

A number of Cannon-branded gas log heaters, distributed by Sampford & Staff, have recently received a four star energy rating which means they will now qualify for the rebate.

To receive the rebate, households must meet several conditions: the house must have been built before 1 July 2003, households must be able to prove their current heating source is from electricity, firewood, oil or LPG and households must not have a previously installed gas heater.

According to Everdure distributor, Shriro Australia, the rebate does not apply to all gas heaters.
“This rebate applies to flued space heaters, which we do not have in our range,” said Shriro Australia general manager – housewares, Maver Sims.

The Cannon models eligible include the Fitzroy Profile 4-star in-built and freestanding, Canterbury 4-star in-built and freestanding and the Fitzroy Profile Powerflue 4.4 star in-built model.

Retailers interested in the rebate will require their electricity bill and can self-assess online at www.sustainability.vic.gov.au.
