Exclusivity in select states.

The Dorsett Retail Group has acquired a 22-year licence to exclusively franchise and promote the Retravision brand in Western Australia, South Australia and the Northern Territory.

The Dorsett group will have a non-exclusive arrangement with the owner of the Retravision brand, Narta, in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, ACT and Tasmania.

Dorsett Retail managing director, David Dorsett-Lynn, told Appliance Retailer that the opportunity to acquire the rights to franchise the brand in Western Australia, South Australia and the Northern Territory provides numerous opportunities for existing and future retailers within the group.

“Retravision is a national brand and we will be looking for opportunities in large regional centres as well as metropolitan areas where the brand can be applied,” he said.

“We expect that in regional centres the Retravision brand would suit stores with a turnover of $5 million, while in metropolitan areas stores with a $15 million turnover are the kind of businesses we would like to have with a Retravision brand out the front.”

Dorsett-Lynn confirmed there are currently 25 stores within the network, with the business turning over approximately $200 million over the last 12 months. Of these stores there are eight stores from the Dorsett Retail Group that represents just under half of the total turnover located at Bunbury, Midland, Cannington, Joondalup, Oconnor, Busselton, Rockingham and Margaret River.

There are 22 stores in Western Australia, two stores in South Australia at Clare and Kadina and the Murray Oakley store in Darwin.

Dorsett-Lynn said that the contract with Narta to franchise stores does not provide exclusive access to other states including New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, ACT and Tasmania.

“This is not a decision that Narta made, this is a decision that everyone in Retravision made and in that meeting there was not a single dissenting voice at the table. Everyone within Retravision sees it as a great opportunity to move forward and particularly now that all Retravision branded stores can buy off the one pricing book.”
