One in two Australians bought something on eBay in 2016 with consumers spending a total of 448 million hours on the site throughout the year. About 67% of eBay visits came from mobile devices and 2.3 items were sold per second on mobiles.

Despite the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 recall, smartphones experienced 22% year-on-year growth. In 2016, bagless, cordless and cyclonic vacuums took over Australian homes with Dyson vacuum cleaners growing on eBay.com.au at 66% year-on-year growth.

Popularity of Pokemon Go exploded and as a result, portable phone charger sales increased by 140% in July. But the best-selling items for 2016 were VR headsets with one sold every two minutes and smartwatches with one sold every 50 seconds. After hoverboards were the must-have Christmas gift in 2015, they experienced a 75% decline in 2016.
