Retailers await consistent warm temperatures.

Many Sydneysiders are eagerly awaiting the mercury to soar above 30 degrees Celsius next week, but temperatures have remained mild up until now, and retailers are feeling the pinch.

Michael Bilmaghani from Betta Electrical North Sydney told AR that he has still been selling the odd heater here and there, with an unusually slow start to cooling products.

“We only started selling air-conditioners around two weeks ago. Overall, whitegoods have been selling well, particularly due to renovations and upgrades. However, the store has been reasonably quiet for this time of year with a noticeable decline in walk-in traffic,” he explained.

Bi-Rite Electrical Merrylands has also seen terrific sales in the cooking category, although cooling stock has not moved from the shopfloor. One of the salesmen told AR “The weather is still very inconsistent. Customers need to experience at least three consecutive warm days before they consider purchasing a fan or air conditioner for the home.”

Leading Appliances Bass Hill echoed the comments of Betta Electrical and Bi-Rite Electrical with limited cooling stock currently being sold.
