Consumer warning on unsafe products.

In the lead-up to Christmas, consumer group Choice is encouraging people to check their homes for unsafe products. The warning comes on a year that had a 12% increase in product recalls.

Included in the organisations list of 12 recalled products was the Samsung Galaxy Note7 smartphone, the Kogan 3DR Sold Smart Drone Quadcopter and Breville’s Fast Slow Cooker.

Choice head of media, Tom Godfrey said on average only around half the products recalled will be returned to the company. “With so many consumers shopping online and heading to stores before Christmas it is a good time to check the home for recalled products and exercise their rights. Whether it is your favourite smartphone or slow cooker, hundreds of popular products have been recalled that present a danger to you and your family,” Godfrey said.

Samsung has recalled more the 50,000 Galaxy Note7 smartphones due to a fire risk while components of Kogan’s 3DR Solo Smart Drone Quadcopter have not been tested or approved by Australian electrical certification. The Breville Fast Slow Cooker carries a risk of scalding from hot liquids and may require a replacement gasket kit.
